Project Moses is a program focused on helping 12-18 year old boys from disadvantaged circumstances achieve a highschool education. Our slogan is “Developing leaders to fulfill dreams” and that is a key aspect for how we manage their time here at the Project. Throughout their time here they will be asked about their dreams and their vision for the future. We encourage development toward that dream and help them seek the right opportunities to further invest in the future they seek. Our call is not just to pour into the lives of these students but also to influence their community.
Moses experienced two times in his life where he was withdrawn from his family and from his calling. Firstly, when by the faith of his parents, he was floated down the river Nile to be discovered by the princess. God moved him away from his family where he received the finest education the world had to offer. He was trained to be a leader. Later, after he retreated to the desert God taught him another form of leadership, shepherding. He was later called back to his people to lead them to the promise that God had for them. After this image the Project strives to form and develop young men into leaders. We use educational opportunities and the natural environment to build abilities and that will serve the students well in their future. But always with a greater call in mind.
Project Moses is located on a 120 acre commercial farm. This land was a blessing to Mission UpReach, as a way to seek sustainability for the ministry by investing in practical enterprises. Management operations for sixty acres of coffee, 200,000 broiler chickens and 500,000 Tilapia not only serve to generate income they also serve to train and equip the young men in the Project to become entrepreneurs in agriculture. This is effective training and preparation for life for these boys since they serve as apprentices for from three to six years while living, studying and working on the farm.
It is through these means that we seek to develop future leaders so they can lift their communities up and in the hopes that they too may lead their people toward God’s promise. We are training and equipping the future generations of coffee farmers, business owners, and community leaders, who will shape and transform Honduras.
Phil Davidson, a Canadian from Alberta, and his brothers along with some local leaders from the communities surrounding Santa Rosa de Copán, founded the Moses Project more than 15 years ago. The goal of the Moses Project has always been to provide access to a junior high and high school education for young men from poor families who cannot afford for their sons to continue studying past the 6th grade.
